MSI Released Wind U135, Its First Pine Trail Atom Powered Netbook
MSI has rolled out its first netbook based on Intel’s new Pine Trail Atom chips, which are supposed to be more power-efficient than the older Atom processors.
The Wind U135 Netbook comes in flavors of charcoal, silver, ruby, or sapphire, with a film-printed shiny coating and a new raised chiclet keyboard. A larger-sized touchpad is also included, with 160GB or 250GB hard drive, and 1GB of RAM. Windows 7 Starter on a 10-inch screen (1024×600 resolution) is driven by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450, and mixed in are three USB ports and a 1.3 MP webcam.
The most notable hardware debut on the MSI Wind U135 is undoubtedly the new Intel Atom N450 1.66-GHz processor. Unlike the older Atom N270 and N280 chips, the newer single core N450 packs in the processor, graphics chip, and memory controller on a single die–thereby reducing its power footprint. Paired with the processor is just 1GB of DDR2 RAM (disappointing) and a 250GB hard drive.
Besides reducing power usage, the Intel platform also makes it possible for computer makers to build thinner netbooks. Intel claims the netbook platform is 60% smaller than the previous generation. The U135 is three-quarters of an inch thick at its thinnest point and weighs three pounds.
For those who’re looking to pick one up, purchase is available at retailers and online.
